This major is offered within the College of Engineering and Computer Science by the Engineering Technology department and is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

UCF Geomatics Program Objectives:

• Prepare students who can successfully take the LSIT exam during the senior year.
• Program graduates will demonstrate an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of Geomatics.
• Program graduates will demonstrate an ability to apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging applications of Geomatics.
• Program graduates are expected to complete the PLS exam and have the full license within a few years after graduation.
• Expand the role of Geomatics in the Central Florida information community.

Geomatics Program Development Consideration:

• Geomatics education has always been strongly connected to the profession. Since the profession is now quickly changing, education has to change accordingly to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to adapt to the new professional environment.
• Students now need to be equipped with more knowledge and skills than what needed in the past.
• The new and emerging technologies including GIS, GPS, LIDAR, etc require the development of coursework to prepare surveying students with the skills needed to deal with these technologies.
• The LSIT and PLS exams are now including more questions than they had in the past about the new and emerging technologies.

BSET-Geomatics Requirements:

The new BSET-Geomatics degree at UCF requires 128 semester hours (SH) including:
• UCF General Education Program (38 hours)
• Engineering Technology Core Requirements (27 SH)
• Technical specialization-Geomatics: including required and elective courses (63 SH)

Students Applying for Admission to Geomatics Program:

Students wishing to apply to the Geomatics Program in spring or summer, 2007, for admission in the Summer or Fall, 2007 need to apply for the BSET, Design option. The Geomatics option is not available for declaration of major until summer 2007. The core courses for the BSET degree concentrations are the same. Once enrolled, then you may take the Geomatics courses, as offered, along with the other courses and then submit a change of major form. Deadline for summer applications is March 1 and for fall applications is July 1.

Students Wishing to Take Courses as Non-Degree Seeking:

Students wishing to take only Geomatics courses may take them as a non-degree seeking student. If you wish to later be degree-seeking, then the courses will still count. Check with the UCF Admissions Office.
